“Emerging Threats & Countermeasures in the Age of AI”: Lecture series of the “85 Exceptionally Fabulous Years of CET”
On August 30, 2024, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum hosted an insightful lecture titled “Emerging Threats & Countermeasures in the Age of AI.” This event was part of the celebration of the college’s 85th anniversary. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Adarsh Nair, the Director and Global Head of Information Security Compliance at UST. With his vast experience in cybersecurity, provided a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and the security challenges that come with it.
During the session, Mr. Adarsh Nair discussed how AI is being used to enhance cybersecurity by detecting, analyzing, and responding to threats more effectively than traditional methods. He also highlighted the emerging cyber threats driven by AI, such as deep fakes, AI-generated malware, social engineering, prompt injection, data poisoning and automated phishing schemes. To address these threats, he talked about various countermeasures, emphasizing the need for AI-based defense mechanisms, continuous monitoring, and ongoing research to keep up with potential vulnerabilities. He supported his insights with case studies and real-world examples, illustrating both the positive and negative impacts of AI on cybersecurity.
